Today in Munich, Xiaomi unveiled its latest flagship, the Xiaomi 12T Pro, and its sibling, the Xiaomi 12T. The manufacturer touts the 200MP f/1.69 primary rear shooter with OIS as the “ultimate camera,” making that feature the show’s star. The 12T features a lower resolution 108MP f/1.7 primary sensor with OIS (optical image stabilization). Both are complemented with an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide sensor and a 2MP f/2.4 macro camera.
The previous flagship, the Xiaomi 12 Pro, featured three 50MP sensors, an f1/9 wide (primary), a 2X f1/9 short-zoom, and an f2/2 ultra-wide. Xiaomi opted to replace the zoom camera with a macro camera for the 12T Pro. It seems the choice of lower resolutions for the companion lenses allowed Xiaomi to put more resources into the massive resolution sensor for the primary camera.
Both new devices’ 6.67” 1220p AMOLED displays are almost the same, the 12T Pro features slightly better color and display quality, with Dolby Vision and SGS Low Visual Fatigue certifications. Both displays deliver a maximum 120 Hz refresh rate, with AdaptiveSync switching from 30Hz to 60Hz to 90Hz and 120 Hz depending on the usage. Both provide a 900 NITs peak brightness that we measured.
On the design side, it is almost impossible to differentiate the 12T from the 12T Pro, the latter has a slightly thicker camera bump. We had to label them to make sure we recognized each model.
Both models feature identical excellent battery specs with 5000 mAh and a fast 120W charger included (a $45+ value), but the computing platform is different. Xiaomi claims a 100% charge in 19 minutes, we will surely measure the charging speed to confirm the claim for our upcoming review.
On the Soc side, the 12T Pro gets the latest Qualcomm flagship, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 while the 12T features a MediaTek Dimensity 8100-Ultra processor. According to Geekbench 5, the 12T Pro is ~17% faster (multi-core Geekbench) than the 12T.
Both devices are certified Dolby Atmos, and the 12T Pro has additional sound tuning by Harman Kardon.
