A few days ago, the iPhone 13 was officially announced and apart from the new hardware and new colors, for the most part it felt like just a slight improvement over the iPhone 12. It wasn’t as fancy as an upgrade compared to the iPhone 12 from the iPhone 11, but then again, the iPhone 13 could be seen as an “S” upgrade.
Some have even suggested that the reason it felt a bit lackluster was due to a brain drain over at Apple where they were apparently losing key team members from the A-series chipset department.
That being said, it’s all speculation and the numbers have proven it, sort of. According to a report from the South China Morning Post, it turns out that despite the seemingly underwhelming upgrade, the iPhone 13’s pre-orders over in China have taken off and have since surpassed those of the iPhone 12 last year.
This is according to numbers from Apple’s official store on JD.com which reports that consumers in China placed more than 2 million pre-orders for the new iPhone 13, which is about 500,000 more than the iPhone 12 from 2021. Of course, this is just but one source and one region.
It is entirely possible that at the end of the day, the iPhone 13 could still end up selling less than the iPhone 12, but as far as pre-orders go, it’s looking promising.
