When Apple announced the iPhone 13, many were probably slightly relieved that Apple did not increase the price of the phone. The iPhone 13 Pro is priced starting at $999, the same price as its predecessor, the iPhone 12 Pro. However, what’s interesting to note is that Apple could actually be making slightly less profit off it.
This is because according to research firm TechInsights, they believe that it costs Apple around $570 to produce the device, which apparently makes it around $22.50 more expensive than the iPhone 12 Pro, but yet the fact that Apple has priced it the same at $999 suggests that the Cupertino company could have absorbed those costs.
Now, $20 doesn’t sound like a lot, but when you produce millions of units, it obviously adds up. A million units alone means that Apple’s costs just went up by $22.5 million. Combine that with other non-production related costs like research and development, employee salaries, and marketing, and it could result in Apple making slightly less profit on the iPhone 13 Pro than they did with previous models.
However, we can’t say with certainty that these figures are 100% accurate. Like the majority of companies, Apple does not disclose how much it costs for them to build their products. There are many factors to take into consideration, like how much it costs for Apple to get certain components, if there are discounts given due to long-standing relationships, and so on, so don’t put too much stock into these figures.
