Android tablets these days aren’t exactly a very common sight. This is because it’s hard to try and dethrone Apple’s iPad, but that hasn’t stopped some manufacturers from trying. In fact, if you are after a new tablet but don’t want to pay the Apple tax, then maybe Xiaomi’s Mi Pad 5 could be the tablet for you, especially since it looks awfully a lot like the iPad Pro.
The Mi Pad 5 will be offered in a regular and a Pro version. Both models will sport an 11-inch display with a 2560×1600 pixel resolution and 120Hz refresh rate, along with TrueTone display technology and support for Dolby Vision and HDR10. Xiaomi claims that the displays can also go up to 500 nits in brightness, for those who are worried that it might be too dim.
Under the hood, the Mi Pad 5 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 860, while the Pro will be powered by the Snapdragon 870, which will also be offered in a WiFi-only model and also 5G-enabled version. The regular Mi Pad 5 will sport a single 13MP camera on the back while the Pro will offer a dual 13MP + 5MP camera combo.
The tablet will pack an 8,720mAh battery (8,600mAh for the Pro model) with support for 67W fast-charging. Other features also include an optional keyboard case accessory and also a stylus. As for price, the Mi Pad 5 will start at $310, while the Pro version will start at $385, making this a much more affordable alternative to the iPad or iPad Pro.
