It is kind of an open secret that Apple is working on an electric car and self-driving technology. Whether or not it manifests as an actual production model that people can buy or if Apple is developing the tech to sell to others is unclear, but what we do know is that Apple seems to be expanding their team.

According to a new report from MacRumors, Apple’s latest hires are two former Mercedes engineers with experience in mass production of vehicles, steering, dynamics, and software and project management. One of the hires is now a product design engineer at Apple’s Special Projects Group.

While it is not explicitly stated what they’ll be doing at Apple, the fact that they used to work at Mercedes suggests that their hiring could be for their experience in the automotive industry. This wouldn’t be the first time that Apple has hired people with such experience. So far we’ve seen Apple hire people who have had experience working at Porsche, Volkswagen, BMW, Audi, and Tesla.

That being said, Apple hasn’t confirmed anything about their car plans yet, but we know that they have been testing out their technology on public roads and the latest rumors are claiming that production could actually begin in 2024.
