rock band 4

Rock Band 4 has had a good run on consoles but wouldn’t it be grand if the game was also available to PC gamers? Harmonix, the developer, certainly seems to think so. Harmonix has now launched a crowdfunding campaign and if it reaches the goal it’s going to start working on Rock Band 4 for PC. This isn’t the first time a developer is raising money to make a game so it’s not surprising at all.

Harmonix has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Fig to raise $1.5 million over the next 35 days. It says that developing the PC port is actually going to cost $2 million but it’s going to put up the additional $500,000 itself.

Fig is a new crowdfunding platform that’s aimed at developers who want to take a shot at crowdfunding to raise money for their games. Double Fine has used this platform to raise more than $3 million for its Psychonauts sequel.

If the goal is reached then Sumo Digital will come on board to develop this title. The developer has worked on titles like Sonic and Disney Infinity. Harmonix says that working with an external developer for Rock Band 4 for PC is going to enable it to keep its core teams focused on developing new content and features for both PC and console.

Given that the money is raised and development begins, expect Rock Band 4 to arrive on PC via Steam this fall.
