Last month, OnePlus confirmed that for 2021, they will not be releasing a “T” series handset, which means that we won’t be getting the OnePlus 9T. Instead, the company later confirmed that they will be launching the OnePlus 9RT, which is the successor to the OnePlus 9R that launched earlier this year.
Now the company has shared some additional details about the phone, such as how it will come with a liquid cooling system that is apparently the most efficient out of any OnePlus device, and will also be comparable to tablet cooling systems.
According to OnePlus, the OnePlus 9RT will feature a vapor chamber combined with multiple layers of graphene. Apparently it will allow the device to dissipate heat over an area of 19,067.44 mm². OnePlus also claims that the use of a metal frame for the phone will allow for better cooling, but whether or not this is just marketing hype or if it lives up to its claims remains to be seen.
Cooling is important in electronics, especially devices like phones which obviously are too small and thin to fit a fan like you would in a laptop or a desktop PC. OnePlus wouldn’t be the first to use a vapor chamber for cooling, so it will be interesting to see how it holds up against the competition.
Keeping a phone cool also means that battery health/life of the device can be extended, and apps that might require more processing power will be able to run at optimal levels instead of stuttering or lagging when the phone gets too hot. The OnePlus 9RT is currently scheduled for a launch on the 13th of October.
