Razer has announced the new Razer Blade 14, a thin (0.66-inch thick, 3.92 Lbs) and compact gaming laptop powered by the powerful AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX processor.

The Ryzen 9 5900HX (8-core, 16-threads) can be classified as a ~45W TDP processor (35-54W in fact), but we’re unsure what actual TDP Razer aimed for with this design. The integrated vapor-chamber cooling will do everything it can to dissipate the heat, but the maximum CPU+GPU configuration will, without a doubt, push any cooling system to its limits.

There’s a maximum of 16GB of RAM soldered to the motherboard, and that’s only the only choice. While this is probably fine for gaming, a 32GB option would have attracted more creative-type users who like using gaming rigs for design and video work.

The 14-inch offers an excellent option for people who want the maximum graphics power per cubic inch. This laptop’s volume is considerably smaller than the Blade 15 but offers excellent CPU performance.

The display’s format is 16:9, and people can opt for an FHD 144Hz or a QHD 165Hz panel. The QHD probably has higher quality, and Razer says that it can reproduce 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, which is a big deal for designers (and gamers too, but not as much).

On the surface, the industrial design looks every bit like a smaller version of the Razer Blade 15, which means that the build quality is excellent, and everything that you liked about the Blade 15 is there.

Inside, there a 61Wh battery which sounds a bit low: some laptops may have 75Wh+. But for gaming activities, you’ll want to be plugged in anyway. If you’re unplugged a lot, pick the FHD display + RTX 3060 GPU, as this combo will draw a lot less power.

The number of ports is pretty decent, and most people should have what they need, except perhaps for an Ethernet port – WIFI is excellent these days, but sometimes it’s all about reducing the latency. Of course, there’s no support for Thunderbolt because that’s an Intel technology.

Qty Type
1x Proprietary power connector
2x USB-A 3.2
2x USB-C 3.2 (PD, DisplayPort)
1x Full-size HDMI
1x 3.5mm audio
1x Kensington lock

Razer made it simple to choose which SKU you want: the one you can afford! The gaming performance increases with the price. All models come with the same CPU, RAM, and 1TB SSD but the display and GPUs are different.

  1. $1799 | FHD 144Hz display / RTX 3060
  2. $2199 | QHD 165Hz display / RTX 3070
  3. $2799 | QHD 165Hz display / RTX 3080

There you go, this seems like a great product, and we bet that the RTX 3080 version has crazy graphics performance “per Lbs” – and maybe we’ll have the opportunity to show it.
