Last week, an interesting rumor suggested that Apple could be looking to use foldable display technology to create a 20-inch all-display foldable MacBook laptop. While we can’t say for sure if that report is true, it is now being corroborated by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his latest Power On newsletter.
Gurman’s track record when it comes to Apple-related rumors has been pretty stellar so far, so there is a chance that the rumors could be true. According to Gurman, he claims that he has been told that Apple has been exploring such a hybrid device and it actually has been in development for the past few years.
However, he concludes by saying that it is unclear if the device will ever see the light of day. To be fair to the reports, we imagine that many companies like Apple are exploring all kinds of products and concepts, but exactly how many of those ideas become actual viable products is a very different story.
That being said, it will be interesting to see Apple’s spin on it if it ever gets released. This is because over the years, Apple has stated that they have no interest in touchscreen Macs. In 2020, Apple said that they weren’t “remotely considering” it, which is why we are still a bit skeptical of those claims, but who knows, maybe the use of foldable display tech could have changed Apple’s mind.
