Following the rumors that Apple could be working on a cheaper version of its Pro Display XDR, it looks like the rumors were right on the money as Apple has since announced its latest standalone monitor, the Studio Display.
To give you some context, the Pro Display XDR is priced starting at $5,000 and features a 32-inch display with a 6K resolution. It is designed for industry professionals in mind, but for those who just want a monitor and don’t want to pay so much money, the Studio Display is priced starting at $1,600 which is still expensive, but it’s an easier pill to swallow.
One of the reasons why the Studio Display is so expensive is because Apple isn’t just making a display here, but making a somewhat smart display thanks to the A13 Bionic chipset that is being used to power it. The display itself comes with a built-in 12MP camera that takes advantage of Center Stage, helping to keep users centered in the frame during video calls.
It also comes with three studio-quality microphones built-in that help improve your voice calls, and a six-speaker sound system with support for spatial audio and Dolby Atmos. Basically, it’s a display that was designed to help you do away with additional third-party peripherals and accessories if you’re trying to keep your desk neat.
As for the display itself, it measures 27-inches and has a Retina 5K resolution with a brightness of up to 600 nits, P3 wide color, and also True Tone technology that can adjust color temperature automatically.
The Studio Display also comes with a host of connections like 3x USB-C ports, a Thunderbolt port, and it is also VESA compatible for those who want to be able to mount it on a monitor arm or a different stand. It is priced starting at $1,599 for the standard glass model, and $1,899 for the nano-texture glass model.
