The Galaxy Z Flip family is probably the most successful foldable  to date in terms of unit volume and broad appeal. Its $999 price makes it more affordable in that space, and it has generated universal interest from all kinds of users in our experience.

The new Galaxy Z Flip 4 will push this concept even higher with improvements across the board: display, design, camera, compute power, and battery.

Since the series is praised for its aesthetics, let’s start with that. Thanks to the new polished aluminum rails and hinge, the chassis design looks more luxurious. The finish is much nicer and slightly smaller than previously, giving it an iconic look when closed.

The overall design language preserves the overall look and feel of the Z Flip, but the new flatter surfaces give it an edgy, modern, and refreshing appearance. Samsung has also improved its production workflow, which opens the door for more colors and color combinations with Samsung’s customizable Bespoke Z Flip 4.

In the back, the rear camera system has been significantly upgraded with a larger primary camera sensor closer to the recent Galaxy S Fan Edition 12MP, 1.8-micron pixel size, and OIS. The Ultrawide camera will help capture larger-than-life scenery, and the Selfie camera might feature a 10MP resolution but still beats all laptop webcams we’ve seen to date – great for your video calls.

This new phone has a 1.9” cover screen used to access notifications, widgets, Samsung Pay, and even to send text messages. I mostly use it for notifications and selfies, though.

Upon opening it, you will see the 6.7” FHD+ 120Hz display with excellent imaging performance and a 45% increase in durability, says Samsung.

Inside, you’ll find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, which is a lot of computing power for such a compact phone. Depending on the model, there’s 8GB of RAM with 128-512GB of storage.

This computing hardware is fed by a larger 3700 mAh battery (vs. 3300 before) which is an appreciable 15% increase in capacity, which is technically impressive since the chassis is smaller. Additionally, it features wireless charging and 25W fast-charging, nearly twice as fast as the Z Flip 3 (read our Galaxy Z Flip 3 review).

The new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 features a critical number of improvements that matter to the user experience, and we’re confident that Z Flip 3 owners are already salivating at the idea of upgrading.

The phone is already in pre-order status and will be widely available on August 26 from Samsung, Verizon, AT&T, US Cellular, T-Mobile, and others.
