One of the issues with the original Samsung Galaxy Fold was that it was discovered that dust and debris could get easily trapped in the hinge of the phone. This meant that if the debris was large enough, it could actually cause some interference when users tried to open or close the phone, which could also lead to damage.
Samsung had claimed that these shortcomings were dealt with in the newer Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2, and it certainly looks that way. In a video uploaded to YouTube by JerryRigEverything, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 was put through the ringer. One of the durability tests conducted involved testing the hinge of the phone where they put a mixture of dust and rubble on the device.
Thanks to the newer design, which tiny bristles meant to deal with this problem, it seemed like the phone managed to keep said debris from entering the inside of the phone. It’s actually kind of impressive, although we’re not sure if this makes the phone fully immune to such problems in the future, or if it is merely more resistant than its predecessor.
That being said, the rest of the phone still seems to be still as “durable” as before, which is to say that it isn’t. This isn’t really Samsung’s fault as the current display technology does not allow for the use of glass, meaning that it will still be susceptible to scratches, so it’s something to consider if you are thinking about getting the phone.
