Following the weeks of rumors that Samsung has another foldable phone in the works, the company has officially announced its second attempt at a foldable device, the Galaxy Z Flip, at its event where the company also took the wraps off their brand new Samsung Galaxy S20 smartphones.
As per the rumors, Samsung will be going with a clamshell-like design for the phone. When the phone is closed, it looks like a small square, but when it opens up, it will sport a pretty massive 6.7-inch display, which is actually one of the appeals of foldable displays that gives devices this kind of flexibility (quite literally).
Unlike the Galaxy Fold, the Galaxy Z Flip will not have a full display on the outside. Instead, Samsung has opted to use a 1.1-inch OLED cover display that can show users notifications when closed, but don’t expect it to act like a regular smartphone display. The secondary display also acts as a viewfinder for the camera.
Under the hood, the phone will be powered by a 64-bit octa-core processor (the make and model was not revealed by Samsung), along with 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, a 10MP f/2.4 selfie camera, and a dual camera setup which combines a 12MP ultrawide camera and a 12MP wide-angle camera.
In terms of pricing, the Galaxy Z Flip will be priced at $1,380 and will be available for purchase in the US and Korea on the 14th of February.
