Intel recently unveiled its brand new 12th-gen Alder Lake processors aimed at desktops. So far, Apple’s M1 has proven itself to be quite a beast in performance, but Intel isn’t done yet. According to recently sighted Geekbench benchmarks, it looks like the Alder Lake processors are showing that they can more than hold their own.

According to the benchmark results, it seems that Intel’s Alder Lake Core i9-12900K processor is about 1.5x faster compared to new Apple’s M1 Max chipset, which is the company’s latest top-of-the-line chipset that debuted with the new MacBook Pros. It scored about 18,500 for multi-core, which is much higher compared to the 12,500 for the M1 Pro and M1 Max.

For users who don’t need the i9, it also seems that the i7-12700K is faster than the M1 Pro and M1 Max chipset, so that might be worth considering if you don’t need the i9’s power or don’t want to spend so much money on it. That being said, it should be noted that while both these processors seem to outperform Apple’s M1 Pro and Max chipsets, they do consume a lot more power.

Apple has touted how its M1 Pro and Max chipsets offer high-performance but manage to consume very little power, making them very efficient especially on laptops. It is largely expected that come 2022, Apple will introduce a 27-inch iMac that uses the M1 Pro and Max chipsets as well, so maybe a better comparison can be made then between Intel’s Alder Lake processors and the M1-series.
