apple-forestWhen you are a company that has the size of Apple, you know for sure that whatever financial decisions which you would like to embark on, it will definitely affect a whole lot of people, including your suppliers. Having said that, with the Apple Watch about to create more history by the time it is released (or so that is what many people anticipate), both Apple and The Conservation Fund are working together so that they can purchase over 36,000 acres of vulnerable forestland in Maine and North Carolina.

The reason behind this particular purchase? To be able to make use of the land in order to have it deliver sustainably harvested materials, where these materials will in turn be used when it comes to paper and packaging – two things that Apple needs a whole lot of, especially when you take into consideration just how many different items that they move off store shelves every single quarter.

Over 32,400 acres on the Mattawamkeag River in Maine, and more than 3,600 acres of pine and hardwood forest in Brunswick County, North Carolina, will remain preserved with this new acquisition, and just for context’s sake, the entire land area purchased happens to be larger than the city of San Francisco. Will we see an era of even more sustainable packaging down the road?
