To date, only two Apple devices use OLED displays and that is the iPhone and the Apple Watch. Apple did make some display changes to some of its other products, like the 2021 iPad Pro which got a mini LED display upgrade, and also its 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros.

However, if a report from The Elec is to be believed, it seems that Apple could be getting ready to bring OLED displays to its iPad lineup. The report claims that LG Display is apparently preparing production lines in which it would produce OLED panels designed specifically for future iPads.

It is unclear at this point which future iPads will get OLED or why Apple is choosing to use OLED instead of mini LED like they have done with some of their other products. However, regardless of Apple’s choice, it will be a nice step up from the LCDs that Apple has equipped its iPads with so far.

For the most part, mini LEDs share some of the main characteristics of OLED, such as deeper blacks and better color saturation compared to LCD. It will be nice to see Apple give an upgrade to some of its iPads, but like we said, it is unclear which models these OLEDs will be used in. Apple is rumored to host an event in the spring where they could announce new iPad models, so maybe we’ll learn more then.
