WhatsApp Would Love To Release An iPad App

Within Apple’s ecosystem, WhatsApp can only be used on the iPhone and on Mac computers either through its desktop app or through the web. There have been talks about WhatsApp potentially launching on the iPad, but to date that has yet to happen, but there is hope.

Speaking to The Verge, Will Cathcart who is the head of WhatsApp told the publication, “People have wanted an iPad app for a long time. We’d love to do it.” Cathcart also hinted that the company has been laying the groundwork for a tablet version of WhatsApp when the company introduced support for multiple devices last year.

According to Cathcart, “We did a lot of work on the technology for supporting multiple devices. Our web and our desktop apps now have that. If I have multi-device on, I can turn my phone off or lose my network connection and still get messages on my desktop. That would be really important for a tablet app, to be able to use the app even if your phone isn’t on. So the underlying technology is there.”

We’re not sure if this interest in an iPad app means the company hasn’t done anything yet towards its development, or if they are already working on it, so only time will tell if an iPad version of WhatsApp will be launching in the future.
