Leica today announced the launch of a new camera that gives off some serious vintage vibes. The new Leica CL is a APS-C class mirrorless camera that’s actually quite similar to the TL2 that it launched earlier this year. Both cameras have the same image sensor and offer similar performance overall. It’s the design that really sets the Leica CL apart from the TL2. It ditches the futuristic look for a more vintage feel.
The CL also features an integrated electronic viewfinder. It has a 2.36 megapixel display on the top left side and it’s better than the TL2’s detachable viewfinder.
The Leica CL has the same 24 megapixel APS-C sensor that we’ve already seen on the TL2 coupled with the company’s Maestro II image processor.
It’s capable of shooting up to 33 DNG and JPEG full resolution images at 10 frames per second. It can also record 4K video at 30fps and 1080p at up to 60fps. There’s a 14 stop dynamic range and ISO of up to 50,000.
If you love I/O ports on your camera then perhaps you shouldn’t consider this one because it doesn’t have any. The only way you can take images off of the camera is by removing the SD card or by using the mobile apps to wirelessly transfer content to a mobile device.
Leica is going to sell its new mirrorless camera in body only and bundled kit options. The camera with an 18mm lens kit will cost $3,795. The CL’s body costs $2,795 on its own while the 18mm lens can be purchased for $1,295 separately.
